LEARN WHAT YOU KNOW

Search, Create, and Learn like Never Before

The goal of the Grasp Theory project is to help users gain more insight into their digital content.

This is being achieved by fusing research in Cognitive Neurocience, Education, and Mathematics with applications of modern technologies in user interface development, information storage/retrieval, and Machine Learning.

The initial prototype for exploring and organizing content was completed in early 2018.

The next phase is adding tools to explore the content within the system symantically and should be completed in 2019.

Some key principals followed while the project has developed:

  • Hebian learning is fundamental. Leverage associations between related content. Context is king.
  • Leverage the brain's large visual bandwidth and spacial encoding abilities.
  • Be deliberate in assisting the construction and analysis of the underlying graph of information generated by the user.

TECHNOLOGY

To know what you know and what you do not know, that is true knowledge.
-- Confucius

There are two seperate systems. The first is the central system to manage accounts and globally "published" content. The second is a single tenant web application.

The user facing application gives a personalized experience while providing the ability to integrate globally collated content. It utilizes a unique integration of the following technolgies:

Data Management & Analysis
  • Neo4j
  • Tensor Flow
  • MongoDB
  • Elasticsearch
  • NodeJS
  • Custom semantic analysis tools
  • Docker
User Interface
  • "Ambience" proprietary spacial UX framework
  • Three.js
  • Web Workers
  • D3
  • Socket.io
  • AngularJS

Grasp Theory Reveals a Part of its Search Engine

September 20th 2016

Neo4J published an article that shows one aspect of the Grasp Theory search engine. It was their most popular post in September 2016! Read the article.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.
-- Albert Einstein

Is Grasp Theory "open source"

The software is currently not open source. The long term goal, however, is to open source the code once the direction solidfies.

Is there a demo available?

We hope to power our own blog using the Grasp Theory system by the end of 2018. Email us to to receive updates.

Are you building the "MEMEX"?

YES! We had not actually heard of the "MEMEX"" as proposed by Vannevar Bush until Tim Strehle brought it to our attention.

Vannevar Bush headed the U.S. Office of Scientific Research and Development and published an article in 1945 that described his desire for a system to manage knowledge that he dubbed the "MEMEX."

Many articles that site the 'MEMEX' say his visions were realized as modern 'hypertext' or the internet itself. If you re-read his article you will see he has a large emphasis on the visual/spacial apsects of knowledge. Grasp Theory uses a LOT more than micro films but maintains the emphasis on exploiting the brains high visual and spacial bandwidth/reasoning.

His protoge was Claude Shannon, the father of Information Theory. We have big shoes to fill and are humbled to incorporate and enhance his vision.
